wooden feet, the caps, happy new years and various bike crap.

Happy new year to one and all. I hope that this year finds you all in good health, and out of jail. After all, poor health and the big house are the two worse things that can happen to a person.

I got my carcass up to the ridge today, the temp was in the low teens and the wind was staight outa the north. I planned on a short ride, and its a good thing i did, because thats all i was good for. Within one hour my feet felt like wood. Despite wool, footwarmer packs, subway sanwich bags and taped up shoes i just couldnt keep the feets warm today. Two hours later and a warm bath they are just now feeling toasty again. Im afraid my time in the field in Germany caused my feet to be a little sensitive to cold, as I had imersionfoot and frostbite once. Enough crying. I rode pretty good and managed to ride one of the ladder bridges that im too chicken to try, most of the time.

My house is officially off the market now, I celibrated by not making my bed and leaving some shit lying around. Something I havent done in a year. Its a little disheartning not selling it because I thought that I would be living in St. George by now. But plans change and things happen and its looking more and more like i want to stay around here for a bit longer. You meet people, friendships change, you find your comfort zone. Ive gone from stressing about it to just rolling with it.

While the Lightning continue to dissapoint at an amazing level the Caps are tearing it up. The new coach has unlocked the key and they are really turning things around. Watched last nights game today on tivo. They really are playing some good puck right now. They handed top ranked Ottowa another loss. Six goals in the first period. nice.

Bike crap product reviews.

I just got a new camelback. I got the military spec M.U.L.E. Its pretty nice. A little  bigger than the civi model and it has the millitary antibacterial bladder in it. That way you dont grow an algea farm in your bladder and tube. It actually works, as i have a mil.spec. bladder that i have been using for a year now. The other good thing about the mil.spec. bladder is the shorter tube and the tube insulator (so the water wont freeze when its in the 20's.) The bag itself is nice and tough, made out of the thicker material, and it has less pockets to lose your crap in. Just two main compartments. No more diggin for shit. I got mine in black but you can get brown or various cammo too, if you wanna look like a militia freak. The black one looks sorta SWATish. I like it. Another cool feature of all the mil.spec. camelbacks are the quick releases on the shoulder straps. Good for getting your arms out when you are wearing lots of layers, or god forbid, you break your freaking colarbone.  Realese it and the bag slides right off. Nice, in case you do the unspeakable, and you will, if you ride long enough. I got mine here.. http://www.actiongear.com/cgi-bin/tame.exe/agcatalog/level4c.tam?xax=25367&pagenumber%2Eptx=1&M5COPY%2Ectx=29486&M5%2Ectx=3059&M2%5FDESC%2Ectx=Hydration%20%2D%20Packs%2C%20Canteens%2C%20Cups%2C%20Accessories&level3%2Ectx=level3c%2Etam&BC3%2Ectx=Survival%20&%20First%20Aid%2C%20Food%20Rations%2C%20Water%20&%20Fuel%20Storage&BC4%2Ectx=Hydration%20%2D%20Packs%2C%20Canteens%2C%20Cups%2C%20Accessories&backto=%2Fagcatalog%2Flevel3c%2Etam

I have lived with a Rohloff hub for over a year now and have to say that it continues to get better and better. Gone are the really loud noises from some of the gears, (1,7,9) and the seal drag... that is really noticeable for the first 1000 miles . It really is a good system. The shifting takes getting used to because it likes to be shifted while coasting. Opposite of what we are all used to. The weight i dont really notice, and the bike is so quiet without having a deraileur and chain slapping around back there. Im up for an oil change, but other than that i havent done anything to it since i installed it. I clean the chain, sometimes. go to http://www.rohloff.de/en/home/index.html

Im glad the holiday season is gone as well as the once a year flyers that the holidays bring with them.. You know who you are with your oversized bags, drunk beligerant attitudes, and your bratty kids with thier stink ass diapers. Your whore smelling perfume and your "is the liquor free" stupid questions. Good by to all of you until next summer. I really do love you all but jeez people try to get a liitle smarter for next year. Make it your resolution. Done ranting.. feel better..

This lady grabbed my ass everytime i walked by her on a 4 hour flight. ...it got old....I yelled at her..

This lolcat is the funniest.    http://lolcats.com/view/320/   never tire of lolcats.

Ive been sick

Sorry I have'nt  been around much, I have been sick. Sick of alot of things. For those of you that followed me over from myspace you may have noticed that I cut off my account there. . I was feeling shy that day and along with  being over exposed to mail order brides, account hackers, and general wierdos,I had finally had enough. If you were one of these people I am sorry ....you will have to find someone new to pester.

I signed up for a booth at the Westminster bike swap.  http://www.stopswapandsave.com/   If you are looking for a bike and dont want to go to a store, this place has it all. Its big and everything is there..I will be liquidating my fleet except for my two favorites. If you are 5'10" and leggy my bikes will fit you. Come see me ..you know what I look like. Bring your boot warmers.... the joint aint heated.....least it wasnt 2 years ago...It will be cold february 10th. BTW if you have anything to sell bike related bring it to my booth/house and I will sell it for you, my cut will be small, 'specially if I do half as good as last time.

Why Am I selling all my bikes?? Cuz Im moving into a schoolbus.

One of the reasons i feel like crap is i started the new lyme drugs. Man it felt good to be off of them for those two short weeks. Im only on day three and they are kicking my narrow ass. This will be the last round, as I feel more normal than I have in 8 years when I am not on them. The last month has had me free of ankle stiffness. Something I have had pretty bad since this all started. And the nagging costal pain is gone .. (feels like a heart attack but it isnt.)

Home depot in Fred is blowing out the sod....I re sodded half of my back yard. I get carried away. Green acres..well green 1/16 of an acre.

You like vintage bmx??  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220178690054&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=012     the proceeds of this auction go to Jimmy Levan, who was injured while riding...get a piece of history and help a brother out. Dont be stingy.

The Crackshack is still on the market. The lady today loved the floors....I wish she would love the whole damn house. Get with it people.

This guy makes some seriously nice stuff...Im in love  http://oswaldcycleworks.com/    straight outa PA. Drool..

Between feeling like poo and it being hunting season, the riding has been a little sparce. I hit a good 3 hour road ride on the cross bike day before last , went up over the ridge got into the valley and totally bonked. I had to stop at a seven eleven and get the hostess pie and yoohoo fix. I made it about another half hour and shattered again, feeling a little sorry for myself 'cuz i had to still cross back over the ridge, i had to hit the country store outside of Burrkittsville. Low and behold they had free apple cider and  not so free homemade punkin pie. I had 2 pieces and stuck a bottle of coke in the cage and set off for home. The punkin pie brought me right around. I managed to get up and over the ridge before falling apart again (that was my goal)  I coasted back into town...real cold and tired. I ate 20lbs of mexican food for dinner.

Always check for ticks http://www.tickencounter.org/education/buckbenoist   This is a story of Babesiosis, a tick born illness. Yes I had this one too. Check you, your dogs, cats, kids.  God, get me off the east coast.

Thats all I got for now. Trip in the morning..back to the tube.

bad breath, dirty pictures, two days and sniper catalogs.

From now on, all of the flight attendants that I fly with that have bad breath... are getting a free pack of gum in thier mailbox at work. Jeez Im tired of smelling your rotten breath. Find a tooth brush people. We have a rule in our contract that says we cant chew gum in uniform...we need to change that.Soon..

Besides that, I had a good two day trip. St. Louis is a boring overnight, except for the front desk girl with the french accent. There is nothing boring about her. The breakfast buffet is good too.

Before the trip I went riding with the gang. The new guy Dave is a top shelf  photographer so we did some action shots. They will be up soon. Truth be known we did alot of dorking around. Everyone was on the ultra-light crap and I brought the Morewood. (32lbs of love.) Its like bringing a howitzer to a gun fight.  Im all about overkill..I managed fine and kept in the middle of the pack on the long climbs.  As usual, Mark was whooping our arses on his 24 lb fisher carbon  Gary fisher hi fi.     http://fisherbikes.com/bike/model/hifi-carbon     It is a pretty bike, but like all light and pretty bikes, Mark will break it in a few months and be very sad. I will cry and laugh. Mostly laugh. The ride was to continue the rest of the morning but i had to go to work. I was close to calling in  sick.....but figured I would save the sick days for when the doc puts me on the heavy drugs next month. I guess the ones Im on now are not heavy enough.

The next few days will be rides during the day and afternoon/evenings at my cousins in Damascus.. My other cousin  (i have 18 of them) and her son are coming up from NC. Her husband is in Iraq (for the second 1 yr deployement) so she is coming up here to hang. It will be nice to see her and Scottie and just chill out for a bit.

I guess I have sent in for one too many outdoor supply catalogs,  because now I am getting the ones that sell equipment to  snipers. Maybe they purposely target the single white male population aged 35-45. There is some good stuff in there, and who knows, maybe I will get something. I saw a nice machete in there, and God knows mine is about 20 years old now. They had a few funny t-shirts in there too, but none I would wear to the bar. Unless I was already drunk when I left the house, and wanted to be left alone.

Time for bed.....

bikes, some of them
